On this episode of the Knightly News Presents: Paid to Play Podcast, Anderson Bridwell, Hannah Pasquarella and Owen Zell discuss what NIL (Name/Image/Likeness) deals are, as well as the positive and negative implications of NIL.
Throughout the first segment, the group reviewed what it takes to achieve an NIL deal and the type of information that may be involved in signing such a contract. The importance of having written structure behind these deals were also highlighted.
In the second segment, issues regarding NIL deals were discussed. The conversation revolved around a specific situation throughout Florida State University’s basketball program where certain players were promised money but never were compensated. Pasquarella also spoke on whether some athletes sign simply for the money and notoriety that the deals provide, and question if they are fully on board with the team’s mission and goals.
This episode also features the positive impacts that social media has to offer. Bridwell highlights important information and gives insight on how athletes have the ability to build their own image and likeness through NIL. The group also discusses how these young athletes can utilize their earnings to their advantage.
