My time at Central Penn College is ending soon, and I can now see what my friends and family meant when they said my time in college would fly by, because, frankly, that’s exactly what happened.

It feels like not that long ago, my family was helping me move into my dorm room for the first time, and I couldn’t wait to get started and see what the next four years had in store for me.

Now I’m here, just four and a half weeks away from officially completing my bachelor’s degree and moving out for summer for the final time.

And I can safely say that these last four years have been a great experience for me both inside and outside of the classroom, and there are many things I’ve done in my time here that I’ll never forget and always appreciate.

I remember my first day of classes, when I met Professor Amanda Stuckey, Professor Susan Black and Professor Paul Miller for the first time. I will always cherish that first term at CPC, when I met so many new people I now consider very good friends.

In that first term, I also learned about The Knightly News Media Club, and I was immediately hooked and wanted to join as soon as I could. I remember my first meeting with the club, and I had no idea that one day I’d become a co-president of The Knightly News.

Sports broadcasting and playing baseball

I came to Central Penn in the hopes of using my degree to become a sports broadcaster, so when I learned that The Knightly News broadcasts all the home games for the basketball and baseball teams, I was very excited.

I’ve had the chance to call many games alongside Professor Miller, fellow student Kevon Davis and corporate-communications graduate Brian Christiana, and I will always look back on those games fondly, as they gave me my first experience with broadcasting a live sports game and helped grow my admiration for it.

I also can’t go without mentioning my time as a member of the school’s baseball team. I owe a lot to my former head coach, Robert Stern, for not only recruiting me to play baseball for this program, but also introducing me to CPC, which I now consider my second home.

I also owe a lot of the great memories and moments during my time at Central Penn College to all the other coaches I played for, and especially all my teammates I’ve played alongside and I consider to be family. Being a back-to-back Eastern States Athletic Conference champion, an honorable-mention All-American and being a co-rookie of the year with Owen Zell was great, but that’s nothing compared to all the long-lasting relationships I’ve built and all the great memories I’ve made with all my teammates during my time as a member of the Knights baseball team.

Some words of advice

I want to conclude this piece by giving some advice for not only students who are new to Central Penn College or college life in general but also to any future Knightly News members.

All I can say to you is that your time here will not only be worth it, but it’ll be over before you know it, so make the most of your time while you’re here. Whether it’s being active on campus, being a part of a club or multiple clubs, or playing for one of our sports teams, there’s always something to be a part of here at Central Penn.

Not only will you learn a lot of skills and knowledge that can help you in your future career, but you’ll make a lot of unforgettable memories and build a lot of long-lasting relationships with people that will last after your time here is done.

Thank you

With that, I want to give one last thank you to Central Penn College for helping me earn my degree and giving me many experiences that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Until next time, this is Dalton Koller for The Knightly News Media Club, signing out.

Koller, with his imminent graduation, is exiting his role as co-president of The Knightly News Media Club @ Central Penn College.
