Central Penn College and the West Shore Connect program will honor graduating student Elida Diaz during a special celebration on June 17 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Capital Blue Cross Theatre. Refreshments will be provided.
Faculty and staff members who have worked with Diaz throughout her time in the program have been invited to attend the celebration. RSVPs are preferred, though not required.
Diaz is a graduate of Carlisle High School and will complete the West Shore Connect program this spring. Program leaders said she has become known for her motivation, determination and strong self-advocacy skills.
“She shows up every day motivated to do her best,” West Shore Connect Instructor Cathy Yohe said. “Nothing slows this young lady down.”

Diaz recently earned the Tom Buskey Student Achievement Award, presented annually by the Capital Area Intermediate Unit Transition Council. The award recognizes graduating seniors with disabilities who have demonstrated resilience and dedication while preparing for life after high school.
During the ceremony, West Shore Connect student mentor Fatima Majdali will speak about Diaz’s accomplishments and growth throughout the program. Dr. Erika Wilkinson will also provide remarks on behalf of the college.
Following graduation, Diaz will continue her education after being accepted into the Penn State Harrisburg Career Studies Program for next year. Yohe said the event will celebrate both her success at Central Penn and her continued educational journey.
The West Shore Connect program provides educational opportunities and support for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they prepare for employment, independence or continued education. They have been a fixture on the Central Penn College campus since 2021.
