Knightly News Co-Adviser
On this episode of the Knightly News Podcast, we welcome the Director of Career Services at Central Penn College Steve Hassinger to talk about his upcoming PennACE Conference presentation with Professor Paul Miller. On the second segment, we chat with Charles T. Jones Leadership Library Director Margaret Schachte about the upcoming Research Exhibition and the Library Book Club.
During our time with Hassinger, the discussion focuses on his and Miller’s upcoming conference presentation, entitled “Experiential Learning Opportunities for Career Services and the Students they Serve,” to be presented at the Pennsylvania Association of College and Employees annual state-wide conference from May 20-22 in State College.
The presentation discusses the urgent need for career services professionals and faculty members alike to embrace experiential learning, especially in the face of advancements in artificial intelligence and the pervasiveness of use on college campuses nationwide.
During the episode, Hassinger and Miller share ideas for simple experiential learning opportunities for students, but also advocate for ways for career services professionals to develop implementation strategies to assist faculty members.
On the second segment of the podcast, we welcome Schachte to share more information about the upcoming Research Exhibition, taking place on June 4 from 3-5 p.m. in the Conference Center.
The Research Exhibition, celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2025, continues to be an opportunity for students to share their research projects across all areas of the college. Faculty members who are interested in having their classes take part, be it presenting or simply attending, or being a judge for the event, can email [email protected] for more information.
There is also a Lib Guide for the Research Exhibition for participating students in need of additional information. That can be found here.
Discussions also centered around other events taking place in the Charles T. Jones Leadership Library this term, including the Central Penn College Book Club, Poetry Night, and open research nights in the coming weeks.
The episode is also joined by Knightly News Reporter Alex Foley, debuting on the the club’s podcast and providing an excellent student perspective to the conversation.
