On this episode of the Knightly News Podcast, we welcome Associate Professor of Communications Michael Lear-Olimpi to discuss his upcoming CPC Film Series presentation of “High Noon” on May 9. On the second segment, we welcome News Correspondent Noah Lopez to chat about his forthcoming “Frames of the Past” presentation and a discussion about his 18-month project that has led him to this point.

During our first segment, Lear-Olimpi discusses why he selected the class western “High Noon” to present this term. During the conversations on the show, he discusses how westerns of this time period began a steady evolution. In the case of “High Noon,” Lear-Olimpi analyzes how this film hybridized the western and film noir genres for something extremely unique.

Also joining the podcast is Knightly News CPC Film Series Correspondent Nik Hogan, a club member who has covered the quarterly event since February 2023. Hogan, who is in his final term as a student at Central Penn College, also reflects on what the CPC Film Series means to him personally and to the college at large.

The spring edition of the CPC Film Series will take place on May 9 in the Capital BlueCross Theatre, with the doors opening at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be available for a donation to the Knightly News Media Club.

On the second segment of the podcast, we welcome News Correspondent Noah Lopez to discuss a presentation called “Frames of the Past” that he will be presenting on June 11.

The “Frames of the Past” project came out of a historical exhibit held in the library during the 2023 Central Penn College Homecoming Weekend. The exhibit was developed by Assistant Professor Paul Miller, Associate Provost Jared Rife and Library Director Margaret Schachte from a cache of photos and artifacts previously stored in the Boyer House.

After the 2023 event concluded, many of the artifacts had no home. So, as a work study for the general education department, Lopez took to the task of digitizing thousands of photos, newspaper clippings and other mementos. A vast majority of these artifacts chronicle the early days of the Summerdale campus, from groundbreaking on construction to photos of many of the majors we had at the same.

As Lopez concludes this digitization project, he decided he wanted to present these items to the campus community. This led to the scheduled June presentation. All students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome. The event will take place on June 11 at noon in ATEC 200.
