On this episode of the Knightly News Podcast, we welcome Dean of Student Engagement Adrienne Thoman to outline important campus events in the spring term and Knightly News Co-Adviser Professor Michael Lear-Olimpi to discuss the recent Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Ethics Week.

During our time with Thoman, we outline several important events of the spring term, including the May 13 CPC Film Series and her recent trip to the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) Conference in Hershey.

In addition, Thoman presented “Adrienne’s Featured Three” events for the spring term:

  1. Race Against Racism – April 21, 3 p.m., Meet at the Quad
  2. Highway Clean-up – April 23, 9 a.m., email AdrienneThoman@centralpenn.edu to sign up

On the second segment of the podcast, Assistant Professor and Knightly News Co-Adviser Michael Lear-Olimpi joins the show to discuss the recent Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Ethics Week that took place earlier this month.

Olimpi, also the president of the Keystone Pro Chapter of SPJ, shares more about the importance of media ethics. During the podcast, Olimpi discussed how media ethics exists in modern news gathering and what impact those ethical considerations have on polarized cable news outlets.

In addition, Olimpi discussed how he teaches ethics, both in his COM215: Communication Ethics course and with the Knightly News Media Club.
