Lady Knights push Penn State Schuylkill, but fall to 0-2

The Central Penn College Lady Knights played a solid game, but couldn’t keep the pace with Penn State Schuylkill, dropping their home contest on Thursday night by a score of 62-47 at East Pennsboro Middle School.
The Lady Knights came out playing extremely well on defense to start the contest, holding Penn State Schuylkill to zero points over the first four minutes of the game. In the first quarter, Kayana Chisholm was a defensive key, picking up four rebounds in the frame and allowing the Knights to control the flow of the game.
In the first, Cayla Thomas played the entire quarter and scored six points, allowing the Lady Knights to hold a 10-7 lead.
Chisholm made a layup to start the second quarter, allowing the Lady Knights to hold a five-point lead. But that is when Penn State Schuylkill got rolling, going on a 20-7 run until halftime.
For Penn State, two scorers led the run, as guards Ava Novak and Katelyn Otto both scored five points in the second, with Novak adding three key rebounds.
A bright spot for the Lady Knights in the second quarter came when Madalyn Brymesser made her first-ever college basket. Brymesser, also an academic All-American and first-team All-Conference in soccer, heard thunderous applause from the crowd and her teammates.








With the Lady Knights down 27-19 at halftime, they continued to battle in the third quarter. Thomas brought a solid intensity in the third, scoring seven points in the quarter and added two rebounds.
With a Thomas layup with about 4:30 left in the third, the Lady Knights were able to get back to within four points, 31-27.
Later in the quarter, Penn State Schuylkill’s Mikayla Johnson hit an open 3-pointer, extending the lead to eight. Novak hit a basket with 14 seconds left in the quarter, bringing the score to 40-32.
With the Lady Knights battling for the win in the contest, Nadirah Tutler took over. In the final quarter, she scored five points, grabbed eight rebounds, and added two blocks. But Serena Jones was not to be outmatched, scoring 11 points in the final frame.
With Central Penn down 10 with about five minutes to go, Otto hit a quick bucket. After a steal, Novak hit another, extending Penn State Schuylkill’s lead to 14 points. They never looked back behind Jones, and took the game by a final score of 62-47.
The Weis Knightly News Player of the Game for the Lady Knights was Tutler, who poured in 10 points and grabbed an impressive 17 rebounds. Thomas scored 19 points, while Icys Carroll added 10 points and eight rebounds.
For Penn State Schuylkill, Jones led the way with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Novak contributed 14 points and eight rebounds, while Otto chipped in 11 points.
The Lady Knights, after falling to 0-2, will travel to Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday. They will next return home on Dec. 16 for a contest against Mid-Atlantic Christian.
