Education Foundation and Research Exhibition recap headline Episode #234

On this episode of the Knightly News Podcast, we welcome the Executive Director of the Central Penn College Education Foundation Meredith Smith to discuss her path to the college while also sharing information about the scholarship application this term. On the second segment, we welcome Library Director Margaret Schachte to review the Research Exhibition from the spring term, alongside two student participants.
During the first segment of the podcast, we welcomed Smith for her first time on the show, as she took the helm of the Education Foundation back in the spring term. At the beginning of the episode, she shared how her career journey brought her to Central Penn from stints in the book publishing and healthcare industries.
Knightly News Reporter Amani Chinapoo-Zulli also joined the show, sharing more about his experiences working in the CPC Pantry this term and his development of an upcoming pantry drive later this summer.
Later in the episode, the group discussed more about the Education Foundation Scholarship application, available from Aug. 10 to 30 at http://foundation.centralpenn.edu. In a new process, Smith shared that the application will no longer require an essay and other nuances of the new process.

On the second segment of the podcast, Schachte shared insights into the evolution of the Research Exhibition during her time at the college. She discussed ways that she has seen it improve over the past several years, while also sharing ways that she would like to see it continue to move forward.
During the show, we were also joined by Knightly News Co-Vice President Jules Quare and Central Penn student Heidi Adams, both of whom presented during the Research Exhibition.
Quare and her partner, Mackenzie Bradbury, used their presentation, “Conjoined Twins: What Factors Determine if They Can Be Safely Separated?” to examine the medical factors that influence whether separation is possible. During the episode, Quare shared about why this topic was of interest and some of the important things she found.
Adams, who presented “Don’t Stress. It is Just a Test,” along with Kay Kirby, Ariyah Claudio-Cardona, and Helena McMullen, looked at the impact of high stress levels on test taking.
To close the show, Schachte shared several events going on in the library this term, including a health sciences research night during Weeks 6 and 7 and the quarterly CPC Book Club meeting later in the term.
