Knights basketball and Intern of the Year headline Episode #220
By Paul Miller
Knightly News Co-Adviser
On this episode of the Knightly News Podcast, we welcome Assistant Athletic Director and men’s head basketball coach Kenton Alston to preview the 2025-26 Knights basketball season. On the second segment, we welcome the Intern of the Year Rosanna Wakley to chat more about the award she won at the Business Partner of the Year Breakfast in September.
During our first segment with Alston, we discussed how he stepped into the head coaching ranks with Central Penn. Alston had previously been an assistant coach with the team and has experience coaching many of the players on the squad.
The conversation also centered on Central Penn’s challenging schedule in November, which includes six NCAA teams. Alston knows that it will be a difficult stretch, but believes that the higher competition level will only benefit the Knights in conference play.
Also joining the episode is Knightly News President Noah Lopez, who shares his impressions about being the producer for Knights basketball last season, as well as returning for the year’s campaign.
In addition, Alston shared more information about key returning players on the team, including Khalil Dukes and Donnell Loud, both of whom have appeared on the Knightly News Podcast at different times to share their impressions of playing on the team. Dukes’ episode can be found here, while Loud’s episode can be found here.
The Knights return home on Nov. 13 to take on Penn State Schuylkill at East Pennsboro Middle School. The women’s game tips off at 6 p.m., while the men’s game begins at 8 p.m.
On the second segment of the podcast, we welcome Rosanna Wakley, the winner of the prestigious “Intern of the Year” award presented at the Business Partner of the Year Breakfast in September.
Wakley, who was in her final term during the podcast and has since graduated, felt honored to win the award. For her, as a non-traditional student, it was a wonderful experience to get to do an internship, especially because of the impact she was able to have on others.
Interning at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, Wakley worked with the advancement office, which also houses the college’s education foundation. Her key task, spearheading the “ExtraGive Lancaster” initiative as part of a 24-hour giving campaign, took her several weeks to coordinate. She developed social media messaging, video, and even took to the phones to call alumni and community members.
Additional information about Wakley’s internship can be found in an article by Noah Lopez, entitled “Rosanna Wakley named intern of the year.”
Wakley will be pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing at Wilkes University in 2026.
