Public safety and summer Knightly News Brief highlight Episode #217

By Paul Miller

Knightly News Co-Adviser

On this episode of the Knightly News Podcast, we welcome Lead Public Safety Officer Marcus Hayward to discuss his role with Central Penn Public Safety. On the second segment, we welcome News Correspondent Noah Lopez for his summer 2025 Knightly News Brief.

During our first segment with Hayward, we discussed how he got into the security industry and how he came to Central Penn College. Hayward, who has been in the industry for decades, takes great pride in his position and the importance that comes along with it.

Throughout the episode, Hayward consistently reminded listeners that public safety is there to ensure the protection of the campus, not to look for trouble. He even noted the number of amazing relationships he has created with students, faculty and staff since he has been at Central Penn.

Additionally, Knightly News Reporter Geoff Hiltl, a criminal justice major, joined the episode to inquire about ways the Central Penn College community can stay safe in the face of danger.

During the show, Hayward gave a number of ways to stay safe on campus, but highlighted the urgency of signing up to the Central Penn Alert system, something that can be signed up for via the student/faculty portal. Hayward also stated that the Public Safety Office posts regularly to the Central Penn app.

To sign up for CP Alert, those in the Central Penn community should go to their portal and click on the “CP Alert” tile, then fill out the needed information in the form.

During the second segment, News Correspondent Noah Lopez delivers the summer 2025 Knightly News Brief, an audio version of some of our best stories of the term.

The following stories are featured in the brief:
