Episode #218 features CPC Film Series and Men Wear Pink campaign

By Paul Miller

Knightly News Co-Adviser

On this episode of the Knightly News Podcast, we welcome President Noah Lopez and Secretary Alex Foley to interview Professor Paul Miller about his upcoming CPC Film Series presentation of “Scream.” On the second segment, we welcome David Thomas and Blake Eiserman to discuss their participation in the “Men Wear Pink” campaign for the American Cancer Society.

During our first segment with Lopez and Foley, the group discusses not only the upcoming film series event, but also the “Haunted Tour” of the Underground taking place before the show. When asked about the motivation for wanting to do the “Haunted Tour,” both Lopez and Foley pointed out that they are both performers and wanted to find a fun, creative outlet while also driving engagement to the film series.

Then, Miller was asked about why “Scream” was his selection for this edition of the CPC Film Series. In his response, he discussed how stale the slasher genre had become in the middle of the 1990s, with retreads of “Friday the 13th” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street” offering little in terms of critical acclaim. According to Miller, “Scream” was a fresh take on the genre that has since influenced and inspired countless films.

The CPC Film Series event will take place on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. in the Capital Blue Cross Theatre. The “Haunted Tour” will take place from 6 – 7 p.m., Miller’s presentation begins at 7 p.m., and the film screening will begin at 7:30 p.m. These events are free and open to the public, though donations to the Knightly News Media Club are greatly appreciated.

On the second segment of the podcast, David Thomas and Blake Eiserman stop by the show to share more about their involvement in the “Men Wear Pink” campaign.

During the episode, the duo shares how they learned about the campaign, upcoming fundraisers, and personal stories about the impact of cancer on their lives.

According to the American Cancer Society website, “Men Wear Pink campaign ambassadors across the nation are stepping up and using the power of wearing pink to raise funds as we work to end breast cancer as we know it, for everyone. In fact, every dollar raised helps the American Cancer Society save more lives from breast cancer through early detection and prevention, breakthrough breast cancer discovery and research, and lifesaving patient support.”

To learn more about their experiences or to donate, you can visit their fundraising page located here. They will also be having a 50/50 raffle at the Central Penn College homecoming soccer games, as well as participating in the coffee cart fundraiser in the ATEC Lobby on Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. – noon.
