On this episode of the Knightly News Podcast, we welcome the Executive Director of the Central Penn College Education Foundation Trisha Comstock to talk about the upcoming scholarship application and Lead Success Coach Megan Kaiser to chat about the recent Temple Hope Center Student Basic Needs Survey conducted on campus earlier this year.
On the first segment with Comstock, we began by previewing the upcoming Central Penn College Education Foundation Golf Open. The event, taking place on Aug. 15 at Rich Valley Golf, is celebrating its 54th year. Faculty and staff can play for $100 with the promo code “STAFFROUND.” You can find more information by clicking here.
Then, the conversation shifted to the Central Penn College Education Foundation Scholarship Application, an opportunity for students to write their best essay for a chance to be awarded scholarship dollars. This term, the question is, “If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be, and how would you contribute to that change?” The question asks students to think about things they would like to change in the world and, more importantly, how they can make a difference through their studies at the college.
The podcast is also joined by Knightly News President Noah Lopez, offering a student perspective on how to approach the application and thoughts on how one might answer the essay question posed.
The scholarship application will be open from Aug. 1 – 31. When it opens, it can be found at http://foundation.centralpenn.edu.
On the second segment of the podcast, we welcome Lead Success Coach Megan Kaiser to discuss a variety of topics, mainly centering on Central Penn’s participation in the The Hope Center Student Basic Needs Survey by Temple University.
According to their website, “The Hope Center has partnered with colleges and universities to raise awareness about the types and prevalence of student basic needs insecurities on college campuses and to provide actionable data that our partners can use to advocate for students and improve services.”
Unsurprisingly, Central Penn College students do illustrate a number of unmet basic needs. During the episode, Kaiser describes some of these unmet needs, also sharing a variety of ways that Central Penn is working to help bridge the gap.
First, the Central Penn College Pantry is available to all students, from residential to commuter to online, and are eligible for up to four requests per term. You can access the order form for the College Pantry by clicking here.
For additional assistance, there are numerous supports and information available on the college’s SharePoint page, that consists of food, housing, mental health and more.
