Sidney Green is a senior at Central Penn College, where she studies information technology with a minor in criminal justice while playing for the women’s basketball team.

Known by her nickname “Flash,” Green’s reputation for speed is well known. The nickname, which originated during a pick-up game before she came to Central Penn, was a perfect fit for her new teammates and quickly stuck.

Green started playing basketball in middle school, thanks to her uncle’s encouragement, but it wasn’t her first love.

Growing up in Baltimore, Green was fully committed to softball, a sport that meant a lot to her, until basketball took over during high school. She also played volleyball, but basketball quickly became her main focus after dropping the other two sports by her sophomore year.

Both success and challenges marked Green’s high school basketball career. In her junior year, she helped lead her team to the state championship. However, her senior year took a difficult turn when she suffered a concussion that kept her out for three weeks. Despite the setback, Green finished high school with 18 college offers, ultimately choosing Central Penn for its proximity to home and strong academic programs.

In her final season with the Lady Knights, Green reflects on how much she has grown as a player and leader. “I’m a senior now, so I’ve got a big responsibility,” Green said. She describes herself as someone who keeps the team on track on and off the court, ensuring her teammates communicate and work well together.

She believes that different players respond to various styles of leadership, and she takes that into account as she helps guide the team.

In 2023, Green was named Central Penn’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year, a highlight of her college career. Two years ago, she led the Lady Knights to the national tournament, a memorable moment for her and the team. Though the team didn’t win, Green said the experience of playing in a major tournament and making history for the school was unforgettable.

As a player, Green sees herself as a “dependable leader, defensive threat and reliable scorer,” and her stats back that up. Last season, she averaged 9.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

This year, she is more determined than ever to take the Lady Knights back to the national tournament and end her basketball career on a high note.

After graduating, Green plans to shift her focus entirely to her career in information technology. She hopes to attend graduate school in the fall of 2025 to study computer science, focusing on game development.

While her basketball career will end after Central Penn, Green is excited about her future in game programming and design, where she can combine her passion for technology and creativity.

Green’s advice for future students remains the same: “Balance is key.” She emphasizes the importance of balancing academics, sports, and personal life, noting that college can be demanding, but it’s important to find time for everything that matters.
