Charles Stevens is into full swing, beginning this season, as head baseball coach at Central Penn, after a two-year head-coaching stint at his alma mater, Central Dauphin East High School.
Stevens’ coaching philosophy and youthful energy align perfectly with the team’s needs.

Stevens emphasizes not only skill and athleticism on the field but also character development off the field.
In an article announcing his hiring in July, Stevens said, “I’m excited to build a united, resilient team that excels both on the field and in personal growth.”
Stevens’ degree in sociology and his interest in helping underprivileged teens landed him at Communities In Schools, a nonprofit organization that is partnered with schools across Pennsylvania. The organization advocates for the well-being of students who face educational hurdles outside the classroom.
Not only does Stevens tutor his students on various school subjects, but he builds the character of his students and prepares them for life’s challenges. Similarly, he prepares his student-athletes at Central Penn for life after graduation.
“By fostering trust, building relationships, and tailoring strategies to meet individual needs, I aim to provide student-athletes with the tools to succeed on and off the field,” he said
During an offseason meeting with his players, Stevens stressed the importance of communication.
“We will communicate, gentlemen,” he said.
Stevens expects his players to be active communicators and to reach out to the coaching staff regarding any absences from mandatory events or team issues.
Stevens has already encouraged his players to give back: The baseball team volunteered at Calvary United Methodist Church, in Harrisburg, assisting with a food pantry for people in need.
Preparing for the season
Stevens led the Knights on their first road trip of the season to Elizabeth City, North Carolina, for a Feb. 7 matchup against Mid-Atlantic Christian College. The Knights secured a 6-4 win over the Mustangs, opening the season at 1-0 as they aim to build on last year’s 22-12 record.
