The 2025 season for the Central Penn Knights baseball team is underway, and they’re looking to repeat their success from the last two years and then some.
The biggest story for the Knights this year is the new coaching staff, which includes new head coach Charles “Chaz” Stevens, new pitching coach Johnathan Smith and returning hitting coach Shawn Grady after a one-year hiatus.
The new staff are confident in the team’s ability not only to repeat as Eastern States Athletic Conference (ESAC) champions but also make an appearance in the United States Collegiate Athletic Conference (USCAA) Small College World Series.

The roster stays mostly the same, although some key players, like Zach Boyer, Adam Hoover, Nate Wise, Kevon Davis and Jefrandy Montero, will not be returning this season.
Returning players, like Owen Zell, Nic Joseph, David Thomas, Cameron Smiley and Harvey McClain, will be some of the main hitters on the team and are taking larger leadership roles among the position players, and the coaching staff has shown a lot of faith in these players.
Other returning players, like Gabe Kaufman, Tanner McCoy and Brian Lowen, along with some newcomers to the team, like Terrell Smith-Cole, Tanner Boyd and Kyle Brent, will also look to add a lot of production to this very potent lineup, along with stellar defense.
This reporter—Dalton Koller—Colten Zerby and Cameron Smiley have also taken leadership roles among the pitching staff, which also features returning pitchers like Wyatt Koser, Colby Criswell, Anthony Garcia, Jordan Spadafore and Anderson Bridwell.
Some incoming new arms, like William Baker II, Gavin Jones, Jowan Morales, Mark Culp and Sam Royer, will also be key parts of this pitching staff and will look to provide it with some great depth, in the starting rotation and in the bullpen.
I’ve had the chance to speak with coach Stevens on several occasions, and he’s reinstilled his confidence in the team numerous times that this roster is not only built to three-peat as ESAC champions and make an appearance in the Small College World Series but also go on a national championship run.
The college has all the faith in the world that this baseball team can do exactly that, and it’s only a matter of time until we find out if they can accomplish these goals.
