Through February, Gamma Beta Phi, Central Penn College’s national honor and service society chapter, will collect most-needed items for the campus food pantry.

These items include toiletries, school supplies, food and cleaning supplies.

Gamma Beta Phi strives to provide opportunities for members to contribute time and resources to their community, according to the organization. This year will be the second time Gamma Beta Phi has held this event.

The drive began in Week 5 (Feb. 10-16). Four boxes were set out in the Advanced Technology Education Center (ATEC) lobby: one for each Super Bowl teams, one for commercials and one for the halftime show.

Faculty, staff and students can place donations in the box of the team they supported, in the commercials box or in the halftime show box.

During Weeks 5 and 6, Gamma Beta Phi members will collect and count the items from the boxes, and then put the boxes back in the ATEC lobby for a rematch.

During Week 7 (Feb. 24-March 2), each day will present a new theme and a new item on the boxes for one of the pantry’s most needed items.

During Week 10, on March 11, West Shore Connections2sdays, with the West Shore Connect Program, will take place at 3 p.m., during which Gamma Beta Phi and West Shore Connect will organize all the donated products in the pantry.

West Shore Connections2sdays is held each term. During the event, West Shore Connect partners with a campus organization to learn more about the organization and what it does. West Shore Connect is a program of the West Shore School District who have graduated from high school and have intellectual disabilities or autism.

The Central Penn College Food Pantry supports not only on-campus but off-campus and commuting students, too. The pantry’s mission is to provide all Central Penn students with the daily essentials to maintain a healthy lifestyle while in college.
