On this episode of the Knightly News Podcast, we welcome the Associate VP of Student Success Dr. Erika Wilkinson to chat about recent initiatives on campus. On the second segment, we welcome Associate Professor of English Dr. Flora Armetta to discuss the recent poetry competition and reception held on campus.
During the first segment, we discussed Wilkinson’s full-circle journey to returning as Associate VP of Student Success. Wilkinson, who helped to usher in online learning at Central Penn nearly fifteen years ago, returned to campus in her new role in January of this year.
During her first several terms in her second tenure with the college, Wilkinson was instrumental in creating the “Bridge to Success” program, a weekly meeting that outlines many important skills for college students. The program takes place at different times each week in order to maximize the likelihood that students are available to attend some of the sessions. You can find out when the events are by checking out the weekly event calendar in Student Central.
The podcast also features Knightly News Vice President Bret Saveleski, who adds to the interview by discussing the need for student involvement on and off campus as a way to network and build your resume.
For more information about the “Bridge to Success” program or student engagement in general, you can email Wilkinson here.
On the second segment of the podcast, we welcome Associate Professor of English Dr. Flora Armetta to chat about the recent poetry competition on campus and the reception that followed to recognize the hard work of campus poets.
During the spring term, Dr. Armetta and Dr. Amanda Stuckey helped to organize a poetry contest. The students submitted original poetry to our Spring Term Student Poetry Contest, sponsored by the Academy of American Poets. In the end, Central Penn students Haylee Boggs and Leo Rivera were awarded prizes for the contest.
To recognize all of the students who submitted original poems to the contest, Drs. Armetta and Stuckey put together a book of the works, entitled “Poems for All Seasons, Vol. 1.” The book was given to each person who submitted a poem, and a copy was donated to the library.
News Correspondent Noah Lopez also joined the episode, giving his impressions of the reception held in the library on July 25. During this reception, students from around campus engaged in a poetry reading, with some students reading their poems from the newly published book.
